Music

In our opening sequence, we need to have some sort of sound or music that we have composed by ourselves. From the music in the opening sequence of Johnny English, we can already kick out any sort of up beat music. However we will need a sinister more mysterious piece of music that will go with the tone of our opening sequence.

Johnny English 2003 (Directed By

This is a film about a weird MI6 agent. In the opening sequence, he dreams of being a MI7 agent where all the women love him. If we were doing an thriller type film we would use the same music that was running in the background of this film. However we are not.
The rest of the film is how Johnny English unravels a case when he makes silly comedic mistakes.
The film isn't very good and as the genre is different from our opening sequence, we will not be needing ideas from this film.

Filming Tips

In today's lesson, a group had gone out filming and had edited their first piece of their opening sequence. From their experience they were able to tell us some useful tips on filming. They told us that the tripod is a bit stiff and so very difficult to pan and tilt and so they explained that we have to hold down the tripod before panning or doing a tilt. Also they told us that taking the same shot from different angles and spots will help make our film interesting and so we plan to use these tips for when we go out to film.

Ideas

The TV series Hustle has given me an idea about our opening sequence. In the series Hustle, everything unravels it self at the end of each episode. We could do the same but at the beginning of our opening sequence. We could unravel the death of Tyler and then end the opening sequence with Tylers ghost.
However this is only an idea and we will be continuing filming what we planned through out the couple of months that we have had.

Location Ideas

This is a haunted mansion. If we have problems with filming in the train station as we almost ready to film. We could continue our story in a haunted mansion.
This is only an idea but if need be we could use this as our other location and our story will still remain the same.

Captain America: The first Avenger 2011 (Directed by Joe Johnston)

In the beginning of the film, a man who is the leader of the evil organisation Hydra is looking for a ancient artifact. The opening sequence shows us how he finds it and a bit of why he requires it. The rest of the film is about a scientist wanting to make an American super natural army, Captain America being the first of these super-natural soldiers and the last as Hydra kills the scientist. The rest of the film is about Captain America defeating Hydra.
The opening sequence of this film is something we could consider doing as it is a flash back. Flash backs help explain a situation happening later in the film and we could have used a flash back in the same way for our opening sequence.

Other opening sequences - Relapse

In todays lesson, we studied our older AS Media courseworks. Today we did Relapse. The positives from this film was a location for where a teenager has been kept held hostage. It was dirty, dark and hidden as the person holding the teenager hostage had to come doen stairs to the place. This set a very good tone for the rest of the opening sequence.

However, there was a major problem from their film, we couldn't hear any convosation and yet there was peoples lips moving in the film. This was a major problem and it was the reason for there average grade. This is why our group has decided to include no dialogue. That way this problem won't happen for us.

Ideas

During our lesson, we came up of the idea to having a few low angle shots in the cemetry scene. This is due to the fact that we don't have a variety of shot-angles and we are hoping a few low angle shots will help us achieve the variety of shot angles we require.

Props - Costumes

Dhylan Patels costume is very formal as he is going to moarn for his lost friend.
As you can see, he is wearing a very formal suit and so looks the part for this particular scene.

In the Class

As we are close to start filming, we have to finalise what we are going to film and when. This is when we got out our scripts and schedule plans so we were ready to go start filming.

Monday 9 January 2012

Montage

In our montage, we are having images of Tyler and Dhylan as mates just hanging out. We are then going to have newspaper headlines indicating Tyler has died. We are going to do the newspaper headlines on photo shop as one of our group members, Salim has this software and knows how to use it. We shall hopefully have these ready in the next few days.

Enemy of the States 1998 (Directed by Tony Scott)

At the beginning of this film, there are quick cuts from two people who seem to just be hanging around what seems to be a park. A car pulls up and an old man starts playing with his dog. This is a very happy mood as the sun is shining and the character looks like he is having a good time. A medium close-up is then shown of another old man in a very fancy black car. This shows that he is quite wealthy and as he isn't the one driving the car, it also shows that he must be someone of importance as he has a driver. When the old man playing with his dog she's the wealthier man his first response is 'oh god damn it'. This shows he knows this man and also he doesn't like this man. They both have a convosation where the man who was playing with his dog disagrees with the other man, this then leads to a sudden attack from behind fromt the two men at the scene at the beginning and they inject something into the man playing with his dog. This was mainly due to the fact that this man didn't agree with the man with money and so he killed him.

This is quite an interesting beginning with a quick shift of moods. There is then a montage of road crimes which kind of give the audience a hint of what the film may be about.

Ideas

Today, I saw an extordinary sight around my area. The circus was in town. This gave me the idea that we could use the busy circus scene to our advantage. We could do the train scene at the circus as Dhylan would be off gaurd to see Tyler at a circus whislt he is enjoying himself.
This couldn't work though as there would be too many people. Also Dhylan wouldn't go to the circus by himself and so we would have to have more characters. But we wanted to have him on his own so he would she lonely as he has just lost his best friend.

Immortals 2011 (Directed by Tarsem Singh)

This film is about Greek History on how humans have saved man-kind and become a god. The opening scene is a dream of a orical who sees the future to be bad. From this OK opening scene we could see that the ending is going to be about a hero who changes the oricals dream. The rest of the movie goes down-hill as the film only contains violence from that moment on.
This would make a good film for people looking for a blood thursty battle but other tahn this, the film wasn't good.
So we will not be using any ideas from this particular film for our film as there wasn't a good story line to the film.

Ideas

As we are making a montage at the beginning of our opening sequence, we have to make it dramatic. Seeing a montage from the film The Incredible Hulk, they made a sort of Montage of how Bruce Banner became the Hulk. The music was especially influential as it really help set the mode.
From this sort of montage I learnt that the music could be the most vital part of our opening sequence.
